On Tuesdays after school, the Mercy Quiz Bowl team, along with coaches Mrs. Ann Lusch and Mrs. Lauren Marquard, gather in a classroom to prepare for their upcoming meets. Donuts are passed around the room as both the varsity and JV teams practice answering long trivia questions. While the team is small, it grows in numbers each year, and its success as a team continues to grow.

This season, the Mercy team is performing well in both the regular and Catholic leagues. According to sophomore Rachel Vinarcik, “[At Catholic Leagues,] the girls who could go this year were all underclassmen, so competing against teams with juniors and seniors and teams with very strong programs at their school was difficult, but [Mercy] still won half of [their] games.”

Sophomore Lili Omilian noted the increase in those involved in the sport.

“This year we’ve had an increase of about 13 people to our team,” said Omilian. “[It’s] been an overall positive experience because I really bonded with my team members.”
