The French Department is celebrating La Semaine Nationale Du Français, which means National French Week. The French students experience French culture each day by learning about music, dance, and food. French week officially began on Nov. 3. The day before, the students made t-shirts to wear on Mercy’s upcoming spirit day.

To kick off La Semaine Nationale Du Français, Dr. Daniel Noren, a French professor at Ferris State University, spoke to the French classes and engaged students in the activities of the French Caribbean. The students also got to sample island French cuisine in class.

On Nov. 4, the students had an introductory lesson to the French people and culture by Skyping with a student from Sénégal, Africa. Mrs. Andree Bell will share her personal heritage of Louisiana on Nov. 5. She will bring in Beignets and Louisiana coffee for the students. The students will also go on a restaurant trip to Cuisine in Detroit after school. On Nov. 6, the students will make crêpes and wear their t-shirts in celebration of National French Week.

The students end the week with a visit from Nicole Gagne and Nicole Lavignewill, two speakers from Montreal, who will share their heritage from French Canada.
