The Junior Classical League recently hosted its annual Salmagundi sale. Students signed up to work the sale on off hours, and members of the club brought in various snacks ranging from chocolate covered pretzels topped with M&M’s, chocolate covered marshmallows, caramel corn and puppy chow. Members also made bracelets and glitter ornaments. The money made went towards funds for the JCL. The JCL also had its second meeting of the year on Dec. 9. The club watched a video on the Julio- Claudian Dynasty, which consisted of the first five Roman emperors—Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero.
“We learned a lot about the emperors,” said junior Emma Greenleaf. “I really liked it.”
After the video was finished, the club played a game of Latin bingo. A list of words pertaining to the video was displayed on the screen, and students filled out a sheet full of blank squares with the words they picked. Words were chosen at random, and displayed on the screen. Students crossed out the words they had, and if they managed to get five words crossed off their page, they yelled “WINKO”, and went to collect their candy prize.
The JCL continues to unite its members through a love for the Latin language, and embraces the Roman tradition through games and activities.
