With just weeks left of the school year it seems everyone’s focus is on anything but school. Procrastination has gone from an occasional bad habit to a way of life for most Mercy girls. If you find yourself constantly checking social networking sites, eating out of boredom, or intentionally going out of your way to avoid schoolwork or studying here are some easy ways to stay on task:
Imagine what it would be like to be finished.
Yes, you have another week to write your paper. What if you were done now?
Keep everything you need for homework in one place.
If you’re doing chemistry homework and have to go into the kitchen to get your periodic table won’t you be tempted to make a snack or watch some television? Don’t give yourself a reason to abandon your work.
Keep an alarm on your phone.
Set an alarm to go off every fifteen minutes. Are you still working on your project when it rings?
Stop complaining and just do it.
You have a test tomorrow you didn’t study for. By complaining to others you are really just wasting valuable time. If you ever hear yourself talk about something you needed to get done the night or two before consciously stop yourself and just go do it.
The longer you put something off the more treacherous the task seems. Remember it’s just worksheet (or French oral or History chapter).
Just because it’s getting close to the end of the year doesn’t mean there still isn’t time to raise your grades, either. Utilize your off hours, relax on the weekends, stay positive and stay on task. Less than a month left!
“Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they started.”
