Mercy High School honored its newest members of the National Honors Society at the induction ceremony held on Wednesday, March 26. The induction ceremony is an annual tradition that typically takes place around halfway through the second semester of every school year.
“I think the induction ceremony is a big part of the National Honors Society,” senior NHS member Emma O’Donnell said. “We get the opportunity to pass the torch to the people who will be taking our place next year, which is really important.”
At the ceremony, students were recognized for their academic success and, more specifically, their achievements in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. By the end of the evening, the new students officially become members of the NHS.
“Being able to officially become inducted into the program was a really cool experience,” junior NHS member, Shaila Cranson said.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the traditional candle-lighting, symbolizing each pillar of the NHS. The new members recited the NHS pledge after receiving their official certificates and were prayed upon by the graduating NHS members.
“It was a very beautiful ceremony and I’m proud to be a new NHS member,” junior NHS member Fiona Fountain said. “My favorite part was how the senior NHS members prayed for us and passed the torch down.”
The night concluded with the newly officiated NHS members processing out of the auditorium to take pictures and celebrate with friends and family.
