“Art takes on a life of its own apart from the creator,” said senior Miranda Kargul. “It’s organic, it’s alive.”

Although somewhat of a quiet person on the outside, inside Kargul has a wild and creative soul.

Kargul best expresses herself through  various art forms. The senior spends a lot of her free time going to art museums, attending music concerts and festivals, and working on art of her own. After taking a dozen art classes in the Mercy art department, and six additional classes outside of Mercy, it is safe to say that Kargul is experienced in all types of art. Her favorites, though, are either painting or drawing classes. She paints and draws a variety of subjects: people, nature, and sometimes things of her imagination. She can pull inspiration from anywhere.

Next year, Kargul plans to take her imagination and talents northward to Northern Michigan University. While there she will study to acquire a fine arts degree coupled with a minor in cosmetology.

“I’ve always been fond of make-up and glamour ever since I was a little kid,” said Kargul.

She tries to learn as much as she can about the art form and practices on herself and others. She’s very popular among her friends when they are in need of make-up for a special occasion.

“[Make-up is something I enjoy. It’s another form of art,” said Kargul.

After college Kargul hopes to become a successful cosmetologist. Although she has not given much thought to the future, she does one day aspire to open up a salon of her own.

While we all have different ways to express ourselves, Kargul’s is definitely through art.

“Art is an escape from the busy world around you,” she said. “To me it just makes the world a bit more beautiful.”
