In recent months, Disney has released many new live-action remakes of favorite Disney animated movies. Films such as Aladdin, Dumbo, and The Lion King have all been recreated with real actors and in modern settings. While it may seem like a promising idea, live-action remakes of Disney originals are definitely not as good as the classics. The narratives of these originals are plot lines that are simply not realistic in modern life, making the films uninteresting.

According to the Box Office, The Lion King movie is the fourth Disney film to reach over $1 billion in this year alone. Alongside The Lion King, Disney’s live action remake of Aladdin has surpassed box office records too. Clearly, people are expecting a lot by seeing their favorites remade into possibly better, newer versions, but are disappointed by the results. The Lion King received only a 53% on Rotten Tomatoes and Aladdin received just 57%, despite having a star-studded cast.

Disney’s new movies aren’t as good as the originals because it’s not a good idea to try and remake themes of talking animals or flying carpets in reality. Concepts that are impossible to fathom in the real word are simply not as interesting as the made up magical world of Disney.

The problem with the continuation of all these live action remakes is that Disney is only making them because they can expect to obtain a huge profit. It’s no secret that any Disney movie will make money; kids everywhere will always be a promising market for Disney. Yet, the sad fact of the situation is that few viewers can really appreciate something besides the original.

Sure, everyone likes to be able to sing along to their favorite Disney movie songs and be able to hope for an even better version. If seeing movies that will leave you feeling more disappointed than satisfied is what you are interested in, maybe live-action remakes are for you. For the rest of us, it’s a safe bet to just stick to the originals—that way you don’t risk being let down.
