It was just a normal Tuesday night. I was finishing up my chemistry homework and the album I was listening to was going on its last song. What does one do when a crisis like this occurs? Immediately stop doing homework and google the top 100 albums, of course. As I was scrolling down the list, I immediately stopped at number 6, an album entitled “Days are Gone” by a band called Haim. At this very moment my taste in music took a dramatic leap.

When I first heard the name Haim, two questions popped into my head. How do you pronounce Haim and what is a Haim? My questions were soon answered, thanks to Wikipedia. Haim is the name of an Indie Pop girl group whose name rhymes with “time.”

As I began to listen to the first song on their album, “Falling”, I found myself tapping my foot and trying to sing along, emphasis on the word trying, due to the fact that I was completely butchering the song. What I liked the most about the song was how catchy the lyrics were and how sultry the lead singer’s voice was.

“And they’re calling,

Don’t stop, no, I’ll never give up

And I’ll never look back, just hold your head up

And if it gets rough, it’s time to get rough

They keep saying”.

These lyrics not only gave me the strength to finish my chemistry homework but also some insight on always trying your best and never giving up.The band consists of sisters Danielle, Este, and Alana. Danielle is the lead vocalist and guitarist; Este plays the bass, and Alana plays rhythm guitar along with keyboards and percussion.

I can best describe their sound as indie with some attitude since a lot of their songs are about doing what you love and staying true to who you are and what you want. Junior Tasia Gabriel is also a big fan of Haim and appreciates the message they send in their music.

“Their music is a perfect mix between catchy pop and unforgiving ’60s rock”, said Gabriel. “I like them because I think they are really good role models for girls because they are so independent and so themselves all the time”.
