Pop Princess

Pop+Princess

Rih-an-na! Rih-an-na! A full stadium came to indulge in the pop princess’ presence Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena. Flashy clothes and bold lyrics make her quite the diva, but her performance is one that will not soon be forgotten.

Twenty, thirty, forty minutes went by and eventually it was an hour before any rapper or singer came on stage. Although a DJ mixed and pumped out current hits from various  artists, it was not comparable to having an opening act. The crowd was told that the opening artist, A$AP Rocky, would not be performing due to illness. Even after that disappointment, the pop princess did not come out until around 10 p.m., while the concert began at 7:30 p.m.

Despite the long wait, Rihanna was well worth waiting for. She seems to be a naturally good entertainer. She got the crowd “turnt up” as she hit dance moves like she was in the club. Rihanna had four or five costume changes and continued to sing and dance when other artists would have called it a night. She seemed down to earth, coming out to the crowd to greet her fans. The love she showed for the supportive, loud-cheering audience was phenomenal. She promised to come back to Detroit.

In addition to her star execution, the backdrops and scenery around her were breathtaking and completely captivating. There were different scenes that went with her song. Everything from dreamy sunsets to FBI wanted pictures and paper work were projected on multiple screens on the stage. Presentation definitely wowed the audience at this Rihanna concert.

Overall the concert was beautifully done and thoroughly entertaining. Rihanna gave her “navy” her all. Her concert and demeanor still make her the pop princess. A little diva never hurts an artist, but fortunately she does not have too much of it as she remains close to her fans.
