The ‘Queen of Soul’, Aretha Franklin, has had a trying year due to problems with her health. Her survival over these complications will be celebrated during the opening of this Sunday’s Grammy Awards. A special compilation of singers from many musical genres, including: Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Martina McBride, Yolanda Adams and Florence Welch, will be performing many of her classic hits.

When asked by CNN in a phone interview if she would be present Sunday, Franklin answered, “I will be at home. I won’t be there but I will be in the middle of the telecast.”

This seems to suggest that she will be in a taped segment during the ceremony. Her return to the spotlight during this year’s Grammys, even in a taped segment, would be very significant after the last few months of bad health. In early December, it was reported that Franklin underwent a procedure for pancreatic cancer, although she will not disclose details of her illness. Nevertheless, the ‘Queen of Soul’ expects to be back onstage by the spring.
